One of the hottest group fitness classes to hit the fitness industry is a Les Mills class. There are many Les Mills classes out there: BODYPUMP™, BODYCOMBAT™, BODYBALANCE™, CXWORX™, BODYATTACK™, RPM™, SH’BAM™, BODYJAM™, BODYSTEP™, THE TRIP™, TONE™, and BARRE™. That may seem like a mouthful right now, but we’ll explain the classes more and tell you what to expect. You don’t have to be nervous when you first visit Fit Central in Columbia for Les Mills classes — all of our instructors are ready to help, you can read up on the classes, and this blog post will tell you what to expect.

LES MILLS™ classes started in New Zealand with four-time Olympian Les Mills, Sr. He opened his first gym in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1968, and today the high-energy aerobics, strength, and flexibility classes are popular throughout the world.

Here at Fit Central, we offer three Les Mills classes: BODYPUMP, CXWORX, and BODYSTEP. Each class offers different workout techniques and areas of focus, of course, but each offers an intense workout that delivers.

What To Wear

Remember — you’re not at the gym to impress anyone. If you want to wear your old raggedy high school shirt from ages ago, then that’s fine. If you want to wear your favorite stretchy crop top, then that’s also fine.

What’s important is that you wear something you’re comfortable in and can easily move around in. When you attend group fitness classes, you’ll see people in all sorts of outfits. With Fit Central, your first class is free. This could be a good chance for you to see who attends our gym and what they wear. However, we really do mean it when we say to wear whatever you’re comfortable working out in.

What To Bring

We’ll provide the weights, steps, and any other equipment you’ll need for a Les Mills class. That being said, there are a few things you’ll most likely want to bring, though some of them are optional:

  • Towel
  • Water
  • Food for afterward
  • A good attitude!

How Much Time It Takes

Class lengths vary, but you can always check our schedule to see how long a class is and if it will work into your day. Generally speaking, these are the lengths of our Les Mills classes:

  • BODYPUMP: 1 hour
  • CXWORX: 30 minutes
  • BODYSTEP: 45 minutes

Though the times may vary, this is fairly standard for us at Fit Central. We take pride in offering different lengths of classes so that you can reach your fitness goals in your own timeframe. You may not have time for a full hour to do a BODYPUMP workout at our fitness center, but the CXWORX class could be perfect because it only takes half an hour!

What You’ll Do

Classes will also vary some between instructors, but there are certain aspects you can always expect.

  • BODYPUMP: This total body workout allows you to burn up to 540 calories. You use light-to-moderate weights with lots of repetition to get toned, lean, and fit quickly. There’s plenty of encouragement and great music during this class to keep you motivated.
  • CXWORX: A stronger core improves your everyday life, workouts, and favorite recreational activities, and during this Les Mills class your trained instructors will exercise the muscles of your core and even get into some hip, butt, and lower back exercises.
  • BODYSTEP: This full-body cardio workout will tone your butt and thighs as you step your way to burning up to 620 calories. You even combine burpees, push-ups, and weight plate exercises with the basic stepping moves so you work out your upper body as well.
